Adam sat in the park on a bench with his eyes closed. Darkness had started to grasp hold of the park as the lamp posts started to light up. He could hear the whispers of the insects around him. Mainly the lightning bugs flying about in their luminescent ritual. For a little bit, it was peaceful. But, like all peace, it soon came to a halt as he heard the sound of a tussle not far off.

As he opened his eyes he saw that the source was a homeless man being pulled off the bench he was sleeping on, by a group of teenagers. The fear in the man's face reminded Adam of the time he had spent homeless. Clenching his fists, he stood as the evening noise of cicadas and crickets grew slightly louder. He walked over to where the teenage boys were now kicking the man.

"Looks like fun." He said push kicking one of them with a little extra grasshopper leg strength over the man and into the middle of the metal bench. "Mind if I give it a try?" He asked taking the boy's former standing spot between the other two. "Don't you have anything better and productive to do?" He asked.

"What's it to you?" asked the one to his right. "You wanna join the useless man? He's a nobody. What do you care for?" He said throwing a punch at Adam.

Mantis reflexes kicked in as Adam caught the punch. "I've been in his spot before." He said with a growl as the surrounding cicadas and crickets noise grew to a slight roar. A light unstrenthened jab to the gut. "Wouldn't expect you to understand." He said sweeping a kick under the boys leg, and putting him on the ground. He turned to the last one who was smart and decided to run.

From there he turned to help the homeless man up from the ground. "Are you going to be ok?" The homeless man nodded either shocked or in too much pain to talk. Adam gave him some directions to a homeless shelter. " They should have a safe place for you to sleep tonight." he told him. "Best of luck to you." Adam told the man clasping his hands around his. Before watching the man slowly walk away.
