-Katt awoke to a beautiful morning. A fresh breeze ruffled the curtains of the window next to her bed, where beams of sunshine leaked in, warming the former chill of the night away.
Pushing the blankets off, Katt yawned and stretched. Her ears were greeted by the joyful sounds of birds singing from the lush green tree branches outside.
Smoothing out her nightgown, Katt scratched and walked over to her dresser, opening a drawer and sorting through for something that fit a sunny day.
The girl smiled as she passed a mirror.
She took in the sight of her round face, and the smile that lit it up; including her big, angular brown eyes.
Katt pursed her pouty lips and blew a kiss to the dark-haired teenage girl in the mirror.

Then Katt opened her bronze-orange eyes in the real world.
The day was not as warm and sunny as her subconcious would like. Outside, it was the middle of autumn, and the sky was gray and cold.

Shuddering and arching her back in feline fashion, Katt left her tangle of bedcovers and shuffled toward the bathroom. It took some convincing when she first came to live with the Faelith-Jackson family for Katt to sleep in her own bed; instead of curled up near Mackenzie's feet.
Now she had developed a style and personality all her own.
While Mackenzie was used to getting up early for school; today was Saturday.
Katt tip-toed past her sister's bed noiselessly, allowing the other girl to sleep late if she wanted.

Without flicking on the lightswitch, Katt turned the knob on the sink to get some cold water, and slurped it straight from the faucet, giving a satisfied sigh as she dried off her chin.
Katt raised her head and peered into the mirror in front of her.

"She was not always this way."
Tracing a finger over her rough pink nose, Katt scrunched up her face in distaste.
"Can she be pretty again?"
