A two-story gambrel on the outskirts of Winter Harbor Maine was surrounded by the still quiet of morning in a town of less than 1,000.
However, inside the home, there were signs of something lively going on.
Awake like a bird with the sunrise, Adam squealed for breakfast. He still didn't sleep more than a few hours at a time, though his habits were becoming more scheduled and predictable.
The little blue-eyed boy barely had to make a peep. Kelly let Eve stay asleep in their warm and cozy bed, smiling as he slipped away and went to their son's room a short walk down the hallway.
"Come on, small fry. Let's surprise mommy with some breakfast. She was up late convincing you to go to sleep."
Adam stopped fussing as soon as he heard his father's voice, and focused on the face that was so similar to his own hovering above where he slept.
Kas scooped the infant up in one arm, and wandered downstairs, yawning while he got his bearings.
This seemed almost like walking around in a dream-world. It was certainly too good to be real.
The small town knew nothing about any of them, and accepted their fake names with a smile. Locals at the supermarket commented that they were 'such a cute couple', and pointed them in all kinds of directions for babysitters, pediatricians, and anything else young parents with a new baby needed to know.
Kas was already staking out a few restaurants where he would try for a job, even though he was sure he and Eve still had more than enough to live on for a few months.
They were fitting right in to 'normal' life.
"Alright, bottle first! Then.. some scrambled eggs with jalapeno. What do you think, little guy?"
Adam's response was a big toothless smile and blowing a spit-bubble, which caused Kelly to chuckle while he got all the needed materials out.
