Lakai was sitting at an outdoor cafe alone. In the rain. The umbrella was providing little shelter but it didnt matter. She and her sister were hot blooded. It took alot to get cold. She knew she should be hiding. The brotherhood would be hunting her after they realized she split. She knew everything. Not that she cared. Rachel seemed to care more about her life than she did. The only thing she had done to hide herself was cut her hair... though it grew back quickly.

She sipped her drink and smoked a cigarette. Was that it? Was she back to being a mutt. Wandering the streets since no one wanted or trusted her? Even if she told the Xmen of the brotherhood plans... would it change anything? Her wolf sense was picking up that she was being watched. She did nothing about it for the moment and pretended to not notice.

Wandering the streets in search of belonging was all that April was left with as well.
Downtown New York City was littered with coffee shops and cafes where the busy Wall Street exec could stop for a quick pick-me-up.
April loved the sweet sensation of a hot mocha latte warming her tummy, and chose to sit outside with hers, watching tiny snowflakes fall and cover the outdoor table with a fine glittering dust. Absently, April started to doodle in the layer of powder, drawing clouds and cupcakes, and a big heart.. which after a moment she sighed and put a long crack through the middle.
Even a walk out in the liveliest part of the city wasn't diverting her thoughts from the dismal fact she was spending another holiday alone. The brunette sighed again, glancing around until her white-blue eyes fell on Lakai also sitting there alone.

"Excuse me. Sorry to bother you. Could I bum one from you?"
April smiled politely, hoping the other girl would oblige. Not so much for a cigarette, even if that would hopefully calm her nerves. April saw someone else her age sitting alone, and hoped there was a way to strike up a conversation. Who knows; maybe they'd both been dumped for Christmas, and they could relate, possibly cheer one another up?

Lakai popped a fresh cig in her mouth before offering the pack to the other girl. Her eyes were strange as well. Her own eyes were a mis matched pair of one blue one green. She sniffed the air as she handed her the pack. She smirked a lopsided smirk. " Figures one of you xavier's brats would find me. What the fuck you want?"

She took a cigarette and handed them back, lighting up the one she kept.
"Ex X brat." April pointed out.
Taking a long drag and exhaling with a satisfied sigh, she nodded.
"Thanks! I needed that."
Despite the other girl's standoffish attitude, April was a little encouraged by the fact they had something in common.
"It's a small world after all."

" Too small. If you arent with them you must be with the brotherhood. In that case i wont go down easily. Ive never lost a fight. You might as well tell Neal im not dying that easily." She took her cigarettes back and moved onto another smoke. She was waiting for the girl to attack at any moment. She trusted no one.

Yet still April was staying seated, calm if nothing else. Her posture lacked aggressive tension. The girl slumped over her table and slowly sucked the life out of the small kindness Lakai had paid, flicking away the ashes and carelessly tossing the smouldering butt to the wet snow-covered sidewalk.

"Neal? That sounds like somebody I should know."
April laughed a little, sighing as it dwindled away.
"I heard about the Brotherhood.. from a friend. It sounds dangerous for a girl like me."
a helpless little girl someone always has to take care of. April, admit it.
"The one man-stealing hoebag that I hated moved out, but I still don't think I would fit in there either. Which is a good thing, since they're trying to kill people."
She peered into the coffee cup, sadly finding only one sip of warm mocha left.
"Do you have a problem with them? Or do they have a problem with you?"

"Do you have a problem with them? Or do they have a problem with you?"
"I don't think she has a problem with them, considering she rolled with them for a while." said Rachel as she pulled her coat closer and fixed a belt around her waste. Rachel just found Laika sitting around the coffee shop. Even though she didn't drank coffee, she was going to hang out with Lakai for a while. Rachel wasn't stalking her or following her, she just happened to run into the girl by accident. What Lakai did on her own time, was her business, she just hopped that Lakai wasn't getting herself into messes she couldn't get out of later. "Brotherhood has a misguided cause of eradicating humans and replacing them with our kind. I honestly don't understand why Ackerman is even bothering, he will never be able to achieve such a goal."

Rachel looked at the girl sitting at the table. "Oh, hey--" she said in s surpsided voice, chuckling. "I know you--well, I don't know you personally, but I have seen yuu around...what's your name again?"

Lakai nodded at Rachel and took another drink of her beverage. Rachel was one of the few people that always seemed to be there when the shit got real. It was the closest she was getting to trusting anyone. She smoked her cigarette and listened to the two women talk. Maybe Rachel was checking up on her. making sure she wasnt off killing herself or something.

' why Ackerman is even bothering, he will never be able to achieve such a goal."

April let out a breath at this statement, made from a woman that sauntered up to them from the sidewalk. She seemed familiar with the mismatched-eyes girl Amp had just met.

"Sometimes you can't help trying what you know is bound to fail."
She sighed, still bearing a smile. April knew what that was like, to keep chasing impossible.

"April... like the month. My parents weren't very creative."
Lightening the mood with a jovial remark at the expense of her genetic donors, the brunette girl took the last sip of her coffee and crushed the paper cup before making an attempted toss at the nearby trashcan.

"You might have seen me around, but not for much longer I think. New York just ain't the place for this Texan girl!"
New York city could have been the land of opportunity; but her daring venture had turned out to be only heartbreak.
What was left after that? April had no idea. For now, she would bide her time with a man she knew only wanted to use her. It wasn't love; but someone needed her, and that was enough for now.
