Shake It Up! - (PG)

"Come on Mackie," said Peter. "I am taking you out for some shakes and it's going to be good!" It was Sunday and Peter had the whole day planned out for Mackenzie and him. First they were going to stop by Mel's dinner to get their shakes, and breakfast if Mackie wanted, then they were going to stop by Statue of Liberty and if time permitted they were going to the park or the woods.

"Time waits for no one, sweetheart!" he yelled from the top of the stairs.

Mackie was trying to tie her shoes. She was still learning. She was dressed in the new jeans and tshirt mom found for her. Mommy liked her new look. The tough part was she shoes. She used to wear boots. Boots that didnt need to be tied. She did an ok job and hopped off her bed. She grabbed her jacket and ran to the top of the stairs. "Im ready daddy. Can i bring mr boots or does he have to stay here with shael and yancy?"

"Bring Mr. Boots." said Peter. "He won't hurt nobody." Peter started to walk toward the car and then he realized he forgot his phone in the house. Quickly, he ran back and grabbed it from the kitchen table, his keys jingling in his hand. Opening the car, Peter helped Mackie in, "Soon, you'll be able to sit in a big girl chair. Right at the front." he smiled.

Mackie buckled herself in with mr boots safely tucked next to her. She looked out the window until daddy came back and played with mr. Boots' tail. She sat up in her seat when he came back. "I am a big girl daddy. Im smarter than most kids my age. Im smarter than most kids period. Next time is mommy foming with us? You arent mad at her anymore?"

"I think mommy is working today," said Peter as he started the car, pulling away from the driveway. "We'll see her at the diner."

"I am a big girl daddy. Im smarter than most kids my age. Im smarter than most kids period. Next time is mommy coming with us? You arent mad at her anymore?"

For her age, Mackie did show an extreme level of intelligence and Peter knew it was probably due to the mutation. "Me and mommy aren't fighting anymore and we haven't for a while now." said Peter. He hated when Mackie knew they were fighting. "So, what are you going to get for breakfast?"

Peter got on the main road and started to speed up. "French toast, good choice." said Peter.

"So...you arent mad at mommy....daddy."

"Why would I be mad at mommy?" he asked, trying to be reasonable. "And you are not an accident, well..." he continued. "we didn't plan for a child, but I am glad you are here. I wouldn't have it any other way." Peter tried to contain his impatience. "I am not mad at anyone, but your aunt Lakai has some internal conflict to deal with. Not everyone is happy in this world. But she'll get help. She'll be alright."

Peter turned onto the street of Mel's diner.

She looked down at her feet and wiggled her toes in her shoes while she listened to him. She pet mr boots. "Mommy said everyone wants to kill her even you. Just because shes bad. I was bad for a while. If i am bad again will everyone want to kill me too? Mommy is really upset about it. She was talking to mr shikon about aunty lakai."

"No one is going to kill your mom or me," said Peter. "I won't let that happen." He drove up to the building and parked in a back. "Let's just put that conversation away for another day, we are out here to enjoy the day, sweetheart. Your mommy is a strong lady. You know she'll cross over any ocean for your safety. You've got nothing to worry about."

Peter got out of the car and went over to Mackie's door.

She nodded and obeyed, not talking about it anymore. While he came around the car she unbuckled her seatbelt and grabbed mr boots. When he oppened the door she hopped out. "Can shael and yancy come with us sometime? I love them both. Are you and mommy going to have another baby someday?"

"No babies for us anytime soon," said Peter as he helped Mackie out of the car. He didn't know where all those questions were coming from, but he wasn't going to hold out any information from Mackie, of course, to the limit. "Shael and Yancy can certainly join us whenever they want to." said Peter. "How about you tell me more about them over a cup of hot cocoa."

Mackenzie trotted alongside daddy and held his hand. She had all of these burning questions but she could  in his mind he wasnt in a mood to answer so she quieted down. She was just happy for a day with daddy. She nodded  walked along with him into mel's.

Opening the door for her, Peter watched her walk in and then followed after her. Loika was bound to be here somewhere. He nudged Mackie to take the seat which was available and then pushed a menu toward her. "So, French toast, hmm?" Peter was talking to himself. "I think I will settle for some strawberry pancakes.

Mackie pulled herself up into her seat and sat mr boots next to her. She stared at his fur for a while. Mom had cleaned him since but she still remembered stuff that happened. " yes French toast.......I remeber everything since i existed. I could even hear you and mommy's thoughts before i was born. Do you remember when that bad man took mommy and tried to take me. I lost mr boots on the highway. You went back and got him for me."

"Yes, I remember," said Peter as he folded his hands on a table and looked at Mackie. The stuffed animal has been through almost as much as they have, maybe less. He waited for someone to help them out with their order.

"Do you remember when we first moved into our new home? You didn't want to do anything but play with that snake."

Mackie nodded and picked some fuzz off of mr boots. "I remember....thats when i was still bad. I didnt want to control the snake. It was her idea. The bad mackenzie in me. She thought it was funny. I didnt. She doesnt care what i like. I hope she never comes back but i can feel her trying sometimes."

Loika saw her husband and daughter and couldnt help but smile. It made her happy to see them bonding. She made her way to them as soon as she was done  her other table. She set down a hot cup of coffee in front of peter and a choco milk in front of mackenzie. It was her favorite. She ruffled mackie's  and kissed the top of peter's head. "Well hello you two. Did you guys come to see me before a big day of fun? Im jealous."

"Well hello you two. Did you guys come to see me before a big day of fun? Im jealous."

Peter looked up from his menu and saw a beautiful woman, his wife Loika. "Well, hello there beautiful," said Peter in response to Loika. "Yes, we are off to see the wizard. The city of New York. A big day ahead of us, requires a big breakfast." said Peter. "In which case, I will have have strawberry pancakes and Mackie wants French toast."

Loika took their orders. " Coffee too Peter?" She checked to make sure her boss left the counter then scouped up mackie for a hug and kiss on her cheek. She set her back in her seat and gave peter a kiss on the head. " I'll put your order in. i have to get back to my other customers but ill be back." She left thier silverare and trotted off in her heels to put their order in and check her other customers.
