Amelia, now 21, had decided that it was time to just let loose and bar hope on this warm fall night.  She let her hair hang down with the red streaks looking as if she had dyed it herself.  She didn't worry about anyone thinking she was a mutant even if she sometimes caught fire on her clothing or her hair lit up in fear.  No, tonight Amelia was sure nothing bad was going to happen with her powers.

She sat at the bar and ordered herself a margarita and smiled as she drank it and looked to the person next to her and smiled.
"Lovely night right?  Can't believe it's so warm out still for September."

Night had fallen on the city and Chris had the night off, taking the opportunity to drop by a local watering hole for a pick-me-up. Violet had helped him cope with a great many of his inner demons and drinking had been one of them. When he found she was gone, he spiralled into a relapse that consisted of a week long drinking binge and another week in the hospital as a result. He didn't plan to drink to such an extent that night, but didn't see the harm in a few beers before turning in for the evening.

He walked in, sat down, and ordered up a Fat Tire from the tap. The bartender had seen him in there before and the two shared some brief chit-chat until more people came in that required his attention and then Chris was alone watching the football game on the television. The young man noticed the girl that sat next to him but didn't think much on it given that the bar was filling up and stools were few. Instead, he focused on his drinking up until she spoke to him.

Chris had learned the hard way to be cautious with new faces sitting near him in a bar, especially those of the female variety. While it had been some time, he wouldn't soon forget the fiasco that had come from kind words with the first mutant he met in New York City. Thing had changed since then, though, and he wasn't the open, soft-hearted man that he once was. At the young woman's words, he simply turned and looked at her then shrugged and went back to his drink. "It's whatever you make of it, I guess."

Amelia nodded, almost disappointing in the young mans response.  She expecting him to be more cheery but this was New York and not everyone at a bar was going to be as happy as she was when she was out of the house.

"Better then being stuck in doors and forced to listening to lectures on bundling up even if you don't need it."  She said and sighed.  "I'm Amelia by the way."  She said and held her hand out to shake.  IF he took it, her hand was warmer than most humans.

Chris focused on his drink, finishing the remaining bit in the glass and sliding it forward, offering up a nod to the bartender indicating he desired another. While waiting for his refilled glass, he glanced back at the rather friendly young woman next to him; it was times such as that when he began to question what it was about them that made women so comfortable talking to him. Most even went further than that and, despite having looked in the mirror and gone over it in his head, he couldn't place what it was about him that was so approachable.

"I guess," he replied knowing that he didn't spend a lot of time cooped up inside anyway and was still searching for answers, though he had already read all he could about himself and what he was capable of; he still felt as if there was something out there waiting for him, and only him, to find. "Chris." He stated and reached over to shake her hand, noting the heat from it but not saying anything before taking the glass from the bartender and taking a sip.

"New to the city, I take it?" He could only assume that was the case given her initial statement to him. There was also the possibility that she had lived there her entire life and he was going to make a fool of himself.

Amelia smiled when he shook her hand, "Nice to meet you Chris.  And No, I'm from the Bronx, but I've recently moved closer to the center of it all.  Had to get away from my Aunt and sister."  She sighed and shut her eyes for a moment before smiling at her new friend.

"What about you?  Where are you from?"  She asked and finished her drink and tapped the bar as if to ask for another drink.  She looked right at the bar tender and waited until he got the hint before turning back to Chris.  She pushed her hair behind her ears and left two red streaks in front.

It wasn't five seconds after he feared feeling like an idiot that he did wind up feeling like an idiot. She was from the city: one of the major boroughs of the Big Apple though he could understand her desire to be in Manhattan; the heart of the city was often where the most of the action was. Chris simply nodded taking a drink from his beer, not really wanting to stick his nose in her personal business with her family as it wasn't any of his concern.

"Hell," he replied when she asked where he was from and he had been entirely serious with his thoughts beckoning back to how his family had treated him before he stopped all contact with them. Realizing what he'd said he shook his head and cleared his throat. "Um - Queens. I've been living here in New York for a while and... well, home generally consisted of a bar or my truck before then, so - here I am."

Amelia nodded at his response of where he lived and smiled when he said hell at first and actually gave him a small laugh.  "No, see I am from hell.  I haven't seen you there so I doubt it's the same."  She smiled and then hr eyes flicked to red without her noticing as she finished he drink and ordered a beer.  She looked back at Chris and sighed.

"So what brings you to times Square?  I'm just trying to get drunk before heading to the park to case some trouble."  She half joked and took  sip of her new drink, still not knowing the shift in her eyes.

Despite stiffling a soft laugh at her joking comment, Chris did see his home as a form of hell coupled with all he'd been through before coming to New York. If it hadn't been for Violet, he would have been stuck in that same dark place without escape; it was through her that he saw the good in others and himself that kept him waking up and facing each day head on. He took note of her eyes and nodded, realizing she was another mutant - a female mutant sitting beside him in a bar. It brought back some very odd memories that, at the time, were odd and downright embarrassing though he could laugh at it from time to time.

"That's probably not a good idea,"
he replied, "the NYPD keep a tight lid on drunks wandering the park nowadays." He wasn't going to explain how he knew such things and kept some secrets from the stranger. "As for me... nothing really. Just got off a shift and figured I'd have a few drinks before getting a cab back home." His life, other than his mutation, wasn't too special and he tried his best to live life below the radar.

Amelia nodded at his words and took another drink from her beer and smiled.  "So what do you do for a living if I may ask Chris?"  She asked and looked right at him, her eyes shifting back to green.  She really didn't even seem to notice that it happened that much was clear.

"Also, I think cops have more things to worry about then drunk people in the park.  With all those stories about mutants out there and the trouble they cause, police could care less."  She  spoke just like she was not a mutant.  Again, she really didn't know that he had seen her eyes shift red so to her mind she was still human to Chris.

When she questioned what he did, he looked over at her for a moment then turned back to his drink. He should have known that was going to be asked when he mentioned having gotten through with his shift and stopped in for a relaxing drink. He didn't suspect telling her what he did would be a problem and shrugged, picking up his beer, "I'm an electrician - well, an apprentice electrician, to be exact. Nothing special."

The young man nodded at her words when she spoke of how the police were more concerned with mutants than drunks in the park but after taking a sip of beer he turned to look at her with a smirk, "True... but a drunk mutant in the park is a double-threat, wouldn't you say? I think the cops would pay attention to that." He raised both brows and chuckled before taking another drink of beer having already let her in on how he'd gathered she was like him though he didn't suspect she'd know he wasn't human given that he appeared as such; despite having a constant flow of electricity moving throughout his body, he hid it very well.

Amelia was very buzzed to not catch his meaning and raised a brow.  "I guess a drunk mutant could get the cops really interested but is not like I have to worry."  She winked at him as if denying anything was wrong with her and finished her beer.  Now her eyes had shifted entirely red as she called the bar tender over.  "Another beer!"  She yelled out only to be met with a stare.  Amelia raised a brow and looked to Chris then her reflection and froze.

"Oh.. shit.. umm... I have to...uhh.."  She couldn't move, afraid someone as going to do something.

Chris chuckled at her statement of not having to worry about the cops being on the lookout for a drunken mutant, realizing she didn't suspect he'd caught on to her being different. He wasn't the most transparent person anyway and kept his cards close to his chest; if she hadn't realized he knew what she was, then he wasn't going to just volunteer the information. Instead, he took a sip of his beer and nodded still wearing a grin, "Guess not."

Then, just like fate to have a sense of humor, he glanced over at her when she yelled for another beer taking note of her reflection and the color of her eyes. All things being what they were, red eyes suited her but it was yet another situation in which Chris was grateful for no physical signs of mutation in regards to himself. He could take in the electricity from all of New York City and still not show anything out of the ordinary though he'd pack one hell of a punch if anyone crossed him with that kind of power saved up.

"Calm down," he suggested turning back to his beer for a finishing sip then back over at her, "I don't come here for the rare beers - you're among friends here."

Amelia looked over and blinked for a moment suddenly catching onto what he meant and breathed a sigh of relief and blushed.  "Guess my eyes gave me away..."  She sighed and took another sip.  "At least it wasn't my hair this time... or my cloths.. They do this sometimes.  My sister has it easier her eyes turn blue, she creates ice.  Me, I had to get fire... "

Amelia again sighed, and downed her beer fast, her eyes shifting back to green as her buzz increased.  "Among friends huh?  So what is your magic gift Chris?"  She asked with a somewhat sarcastic tone but also one of curiosity.

Chris shrugged at her words not really being surprised by the various ways mutants showed what they were. He found those like him, inseparable from the human population, much more difficult to find out but that was how it should be. It gave them a natural camoflage from anyone wanting to do them harm.

"Your ability is what it is. It's just one of those things we can't control," he reassured then took a sip of a new beer then sighed looking forward having been asked what he could do. His thoughts went berserk and there were so many answers he could give before he finally looked over at her. "I kill."

"True, but I do like my ability.  Setting fires is fun.  Remember kids! Only you can stop forest fires!  Except I start them if you get my drift sweetie."  Amelia said and winked.  She took a long swig of her beer and laughed when he said he killed. Amelia just simply shook her head.

"We all kill baby.  Only difference is how.  I told you mine, I'd love to know your dirty little secrete.  D you lift things up with your mind?  Change your shape?  Fly?  Are you a shifter?  Like me?  Oh please tell me.  I can't guess all night."  Amelia said and giggled a bit, her smile wide and eyes locked onto his now.

"Setting fires is fun," he questioned with an arched brow, not seeing what she was getting it. It was apparent that she loved her power, but fire wasn't something to be played with. That would be like him standing up and proudly proclaiming that he'd electrocuted thirty people and would happily do it again. He had to question her sanity just a bit with that.

"Actually, I could let you guess all night," he mused with a shrug taking a sip of beer, "but it'd not make for a good evening. I control electricity. I absorb it, make it do whatever I want it to do and have even begun generating it on my own, though it's a complicated process."

"It is fun, the smell, the sight of burning wood or metal, it's not like I set people on fire Chris."  She said and took another sip and smiled.  She listened to him speak about his gift and her face lit up. She liked hearing about others and their gifts.

"I could only imagine.  If my powers get out of hand, they take over.  Like the fire spirit or what not.  It's really weird. I can't control it sometimes when I'm really using, and I've been told by the Ice queen I become a fire ball so to say.  My sister controls Ice... she's a real buzz kill."  She said the last part with a bit of nasty snide remark in it. It was clear she didn't exactly enjoy her sisters company.

"Well, most people that say they enjoy setting fires tend to be mentally unstable," he stated matter of factly with a shrug, "and we just met, so how was I to know what you meant? But, I get it."

Chris listened to her go on about her powers having a mind of their own and taking control of her which caused his brows to furrow in concern and tilt his head to the side a bit. He had his own thoughts about what she'd said and it related a lot to his statement of her being mentally unstable. It seemed to him that she had a split personality and needed to see a psychiatrist to deal with it; of course, a human psychiatrist would only get killed in the process so there really was no one that could help her but someone at the Xavier Institute and she didn't seem the type to go asking.

"Control is a funny thing. It takes time," he replied knowing that lesson all to well having only recently learned to control his own ability rather than allowing it to control him.

"I know, that's why I don't over use.  I just use to relieve stress or if need be o help someone out. I'm not a bad guy.  I don't do it to hurt anyone."  Amelia said to make sure he knew she wasn't dangerous.  She just liked to have fun.  She smiled at him and raised her beer as if to say cheers and took a big drink.

"Well, Chris, I'm in a good mood tonight nd I know we just met but well, wold you like to get a hotel room with me?  Have a little fun?  It's okay if you say no.  It's understandable since we just met and all.  But you are very attractive and I really need to release my inner desires if you know what I mean."  She winked at him and smiled a very sexy smile.  Her eyes turned to a soft blue, her natural color.
