Many years ago Xavier's school for gifted mutants was attacked. It was left in ruin. Teachers and students abandoned it with no hope of returning to it for sanctuary...

Years later a professor named Jason Andrews returned life to the school's halls and rebuilt its walls. Students have once again come to learn at the school in safety.

Many other mutants aren't quite so lucky. Some still remain hidden in the shadows and some within factions like the brotherhood are left leaderless.

PostSubject: Family Disfunction (PG-13)   Tue Mar 31, 2015 11:20 pm

Chris woke to find himself in a place he'd not seen before though the lack of light didn't make it any easier to get his bearings. He realized he was seated and, upon attempting to stand, discovered that he was secured to the chair and wasn't going anywhere any time soon. All he could recall was being at the police department returning from his patrol and about to change to go home when he was approached by three men in fatigues. Before he'd been able to do anything, he'd been injected from behind with an unknown agent that had likely been the cause of his blacking out. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that it had been the MRD that had taken him and, after all the trouble he'd been causing as of late, he was surprised it had taken them so long to track him down but, alas, they had and now he had to pay the piper.

The door to the cell opened illuminating the area as men walked in wearing glowsticks. They'd gotten smarter: he couldn't manipulate a glowstick as it was a chemical reaction and not an electrical one. Seeing the suited man walk in, he took a breath preparing himself, only to gasp when seeing who the man was.

"Good, you're awake. You've been out for a couple of days. You're a hard mutant to track down, Chris," said the man as he smiled softly at the mutant before him, "and if it had not been for me, they may have never found you - you always were the hero wanting to save the world. It's only natural that you'd be a police officer and planning to be a detective. Dad would be proud... if you hadn't killed him, that is."

Seeing his brother again was bittersweet at best. Chris was angry that his brother, his childhood best friend and one person he always felt he could trust had been the one coming after him. At the same time, the young man still loved his brother and some part of him was happy to see him.

"What do you want me to say, Seth," the mutant questioned with furrowed brow, "that I'm sorry for what I did? He was planning to kill Arabella just to get to me."

"Well, he's not the only MRD kill on your record, Chris. Scarlett Hawthorne... Agents Jenkins and Smith - you're dangerous. Dangerous mutants like you are the reason MRD exists - to keep killers off our streets."

Chris leaned as far forward as possible before being halted by the straps holding him to the chair, narrowing his eyes. "I'm not a killer. Those people were killers. Do expect mutants to just roll over and give up, Seth? Do you even know who you're working for? Dad was out to kill all mutants. He hated me and wasn't going to stop until I was in a body bag... you turned out just like him."

Seth looked over at the two men who had walked in with them and nodded to them to which they stepped out of the room leaving the two of them in private. The older sibling stepped forward and squatted down eye level with his brother bringing his voice to a whisper. "MRD doesn't want you dead, Chris. Believe it or not, you're important to them and they need you alive. You have to trust me or I can't keep you safe."

"Safe," Chris exclaimed, "you call this safe? I'm a prisoner! You kidnapped me at my job and took me away from the girl I love. So don't pretend that you care about me now!"

Seth stood back up with a sigh and shook his head. "I am the only thing standing between you and those MRD operatives that would love to kick you around for revenge. You have to see the bigger picture."

"Seth... don't make me kill you," Chris stated as he sat back in the chair, his gaze hardening as it fixated on his brother.

"You're in a plastic cell with rubber insulation - your power won't work in here. It's best if you just cooperate with us."

Chris could feel the electrical impulses in his brother's mind as they spoke but resisted doing anything about it. Not only was Seth his brother, but even if he did anything, he would still be stuck in whatever building he was in. "You don't know anything about what I can do."

"We know enough to keep us safe. Listen... they'll be moving you to the detention center and I'm trying to stall that, but if you do something stupid, they'll ship you out within the week."

A knock at the door by one of the guards turned Seth's attention as a military fatigued man stuck his head inside, "Time's up, Major."

Seth gave one more look at his brother, one of sorrow and pity before leaving the room as it blackened again with the slamming of the door leaving Chris alone with his thoughts and worries of Seth, the MRD, the Mansion, and Arabella.

Time went by and the loud sound of metal clinking and moving echoed in Chris’s cell. The door opened and the faint glow of chem sticks illuminated the entrance as Isaac walked wearing a metallic helmet. It seemed that Magneto had a very good idea with using his helmet against psychic that the MRD were starting to follow suit. The helmets were starting to be mass produced. Eventually the minds of their soldiers would be immune to psychic intrusion and anything else that could alter their perception or damage their minds.

”Christopher Knowles. It is a pleasure to meet the monster in person. Scarlet Hawthorn was a dear friend and colleague of mine. It was a pity that she was killed by the likes of you. But she was doing her duty by  trying to get you freaks off the streets and out of the homes of the American people.” he said in a cold tone pulling a chair up and siting it in front of Chris.

He looked over a clip board that he had brought with him and clicked his tongue against the side of his cheek. ”Police force, going for investigation. You were planning on taking your test. It is a shame that the civilian police force cannot see the danger of having one of your kindred among their ranks.” he said flipping through the pages before he moved the clip board behind his back.

”I know your type. Masculine, not willing to talk no matter how much physical torment we put you through, but with everything you have a weakness. Everyone has a weakness; some just hide better than others.” he said as a grin formed on his face as the sound of footsteps filled the room. ”Since your brother did stop by I decided that perhaps it would be best that we let you have some more visiting hours. I believe that Arabella “ari” whatever name you call that foul woman would be pleased to see you in one piece.” he said as he snapped his fingers and Ari was brought into the room in a strait jacket.

Ari couldnt move or see her arms. She felt like shit. She had asked for a bathroom and water and refused both. She still felt shaky from the tazer and her face/right side hurt from being thrown into a van. Her right eye was bruised along with her temple. She was sure they were going to torture her after they put the jacket on her but they didnt. Instead they brought her to a cell.

She looked up slowly and blinked in the dim light. "Chris? Is that you? oh my god chris!"Despite the pain in her face and side she rushed towards him, almost forgetting isaac was in the room.

Chris sat in silence for what felt like hours and all he could think about was Arabella. His thoughts ocassionally went to Seth with some of the things he had said and the more he thought about it, maybe the elder Knowles wanted to help especially given that he had waited until they were in private to say what he did. If that were the case, he was taking his sweet time in doing so and the longer the mutant sat in the cell, the more restless he became. All he needed was one window of opportunity and he'd be an unstoppable killing machine, though the young man never thought of MRD as stupid enough to just hand it to him on a silver platter - he'd have to bide his time.

When the new face walked through the cell door, Chris had hoped for Seth, yet was stuck with some run of the mill MRD clone that droned on to him about duty and whatnot. The mutant just looked at him with the same stoic expression while keeping his mouth shut, a remnant of his military training on being captured by the enemy. He did, however, note the metallic type of helmet he was wearing and resisted the urge to attempt attacking the man. While he couldn't feel the electricity in his head, the rest of his body compensated for it and Chris pictured frying the man's head like a baked potato wrapped in aluminum foil.

The silence from the mutant was broken when Ari was mentioned, however and his stoic expression became a glare. Chris had only recently discovered that she was with child which, coupled with the fact that he loved her more than anything in the world, made him furious that MRD went after her. He looked over at her when she came rushing toward him, though he was strapped to a chair with his hands behind his back so a hug was out of the question but his eyes softened.

"Ari, it's me. I'm okay," he responded, "what did they do to you? Are you okay? Is everything okay?" He didn't want to just come out and ask if the baby was alright, not desiring to give MRD anything else to use against them if they didn't already know about it and so kept the last bit vague. If they had killed their child, hell itself would be a vacation compared to what he was going to do to them.

Ari wanted to hug him so bad but the straight jacket had her arms contained well. She nodded and winced. The nod making her head hurt. "I-im okay. They grabbed me at central park and threw me in a van. Next thing i know im waking up here with my arms bound. Im so sorry i tried to run." It was still to early to tell anything but she felt fine aside from her head she was in no pain which she could only assume meant "jellybean" as she had nicknamed the little bud of life, was okay. She and chris were on the same page. They kept their secret. Since she wasnt able to hug him she leaned in and kissed him.

"Don't be," he replied, "they don't know how to be easy with us so it would have made no difference. If anyone is sorry, it's me. I'm the reason you're here." He smiled softly at the kiss and locked eyes with her for a moment. "I love you... no matter what happens, don't forget that." Chris had no way of knowing what MRD had planned for either of them, but as soon as he found a window, he planned on getting out of there and if he had to take lives to do so, he would to protect his family. He just hoped the X-men had taken notice of their disappearances and were looking for them. Even with Cerebro destroyed, Chris held on to hope that Professor Xavier may still be able to locate them; he was the most powerful telepath in existence, after all and they could use the assistance.

Chris looked back at Isaac with a cold stare. "You obviously need me alive for something and whatever that is, you have it. All you have to do is let Arabella go or I won't help you. If anything happens to her - I will kill you. Nothing - nothing will stop me from doing that. If you're as smart as I think you are, you'll take that deal because it's the only one open to you."

Isaac stood there watching the lovely dubby scene unfold. It made him somewhat envious of them. Even as freaks of nature they still had love. The love that Isaac felt was stripped from him the day he got the call telling him his wife and child were killed in a freak car accident caused by a little blonde girl. He let them have their moment he needed them to feel connected before he went onto the next phase of his plan.

He let them have their moment of I love you and all the other romantic junk before he took a step forward grabbing the back of Arabella’s straight jacket and pulled her off of Chris and let her fall on her back on the cold floor. He turned to look at Chris who was giving him a cold stare and a grin crept to Isaac’s face. Was he supposed to be afraid of this mutant. Yes he had power but Isaac had man power. If he was able to strike Isaac down others would come and take his place till the mutant was captured or destroyed. ”I would prefer that you were alive and obiedant.” he said walking over kneeling down next to Arabella resting on the balls of his feet. ”But I do have other ways of getting what I seek.” he said looking down at the woman’s belly before he rose to his feet.

Taking the clipboard he flipped to a page. ”It seems that Ms. Adiar was admitted into the hospital recently for a seizure at the mall. Her blood work came back positive for pregnancy. And if I am a good judge of emotions I am under the impression you are the father. Which means that your tainted dna is inside that of the child she carries.” he said moving his foot so it gently sat on Ari’s throat. ”I will counter your offer. You will answer what questions we ask you, you will not resist the tests we will run on you. In return I do not kill this freak and take what I need from the wretched child that resides with in her.” he said as he started to push pressure on her throat. ”Do you agree to my terms?” he asked in a taunting tone.

Ari yelped when he pulled her backwards and again when she landed on the floor. She didnt like being able to help herself up. She quirmed on the floor. " Dont do it Chris dont give them what they want! You cant let them win!" She was feeling confident until he revealed he knew all of their cards. He knew about Jellybean. It both infuriated and scared her. " Touch my baby and ill kill you and everything you love about this wretched  existence you call a li-" Her eyes widened when he foot went on her throat. She was starting to have a panic attack. Unable to move or defend either of them. She made a choking sound and her breathing started coming in wheezing gasps. She could still breath but it was like breathing through a straw. She struggled in her jacket hard to get her arms free.

It seemed a good deal, but the tables turned quickly and Chris inwardly beat himself up for not thinking that MRD would be able to get hospital files and know the entire situation. The fact they knew Ari was with child and still treated her as they did unnerved the man and he could feel the rage building inside of him. He could kill the man even bound to a chair simply by channeling the electricity to stream from another part of his body; he had more than enough to vaporize Isaac, but it wouldn't do any good as there was always someone to replace him likely waiting in the winds.

It was obvious that he was in a position that he couldn't afford to play the hero and, while he knew that if he accepted their terms then other mutants would be in danger, he couldn't allow his family to suffer because of it. When Isaac placed his foot on Arabella's throat, he wanted nothing more than to get out of the chair and beat the living daylights out of him but he couldn't and instead shook his head. "Stop!"

"I'll do what you want, just leave my family alone," he pleaded. There was no other option for him and if it meant doing what MRD wanted to save the lives of Ari and their child, he would do so but inwardly, in his mind he was screaming. Jean, Professor, someone help us! He had no idea where they were, but hope was all he had to hold on to in such a dire situation.

Isaac looked down at Arabella with a dark twisted smirk on his face. He increased the pressure on her wind pipe. ”Little girl you know nothing. I have already won.” he said in a cold voice before letting out a chuckle. It gave him satisfaction seeing mutants like this. After all the pain they caused to humans and their families it was good to see one suffer as many others had at their hands. ”Watch what you say girl. I could easily have you locked up till you are ready to give birth and take your child before you can hold it in your arms. Or I could easily take it from you now. I am the one in control there is nothing you can do to change that.” he said before Chris started to plead with him.

Isaac turned his head and clicked his tongue against the side of his cheek. ”I knew you would reason. “ he said taking his boot off of Ari’s throat letting her breath normally. ”We will start tests and examinations soon to find out the secret of your dna, your power, how you will be the key to ending the mutant menace.” he said letting out a soft chuckle. ”I find it fitting that a mutant will lead to the down fall, the extinction of his kind.” he said before looking down at Ari ”The woman and her child will be safe under the MRD’s care as long as you comply with our wishes. Fail to do so and I will be more than happy to end her existence.” he said tapping Ari with his boot. ”I believe you should be rewarded for your good behavior. I will let her linger here for a moment so you two can “catch up” he said turning around and walking towards the exit.

Ari gasped for air in wheezing raspy breaths but it was no use. Her lungs ached for oxygen. She tried to yell at him or show in some way that she wouldnt let him touch her little one ever. It only came out in choked coughs. It was starting to go dark when he finally lifted his foot.

She coughed loudly and gasped for air. Her heart was pounding so hard she was sure she could hear it in her ears. Her lungs and throat burned like air itself hurt her. She felt like she was going to be sick again. Her stomach was in almost a constant state of alert it felt like to her. She had been lucky thus far that she hadnt gotten sick much.

She barely responded when he tapped her with his foot. Once he was leaving she rolled herself onto her side and dry heaved a few times. She lay panting until she could catch her breath. " We cant let him have me... or you... or even the baby Chris. We have to get out of here. " She said in a raspy voice.

Chris said nothing more, simply looking at Isaac with a look of hatred. He had agreed to work with them to spare the lives of Ari and his child, but that didn't mean he had to respect, like, or talk to the man except when absolutely necessary. The mutant hated feeling helpless in a cage like an animal, but there was no way out other than to hope for rescue or an opening that may never come and he felt it safe to mentally prepare himself for the hell he was in for over the next while.

When the man turned to leave, Chris looked down at Ari with sorrow and shook his head at her words. "We can't escape. We just have to hope that someone will miss us and come looking and deal with all of this as best we can. I'm only doing this to protect the two of you... that's the only card they have to play. So long as you're safe, I can take whatever they do to me."

Ari tried to sit herself up with great difficulty. It was hard not being able to use her arms and her body was already sore as hell. She struggled to get her knees under herself then pushed herself upright. From a kneeling position she walked on her knees to Chris. " Christobel, babe. Dont you get it? None of us are safe no matter what they promise. How can you even think of hope. This whole situation is hopeless..." She rested her head on his knee and started to cry.

"Of course I get it," he exclaimed then took a breath realizing he had snapped at the one person in the world who he shouldn't blame for the present situation, "it's just that there isn't a lot else we can do right now. I don't want to work with these people, but I have to. I don't have to make it easy, though. We just have to buy as much time as possible..." He leaned forward as far as he could but still couldn't touch her though knowing she was there brought him some semblance of comfort.

"Sometimes... you don't have to use your words to ask for help, you just have to think about it and you'll feel better," he whispered and smiled down at her hoping she understood what he was hinting toward. He had to hope that someone would hear their pleas even if they came as a whisper otherwise, they were both in MRD custody for a while.

She looked up at him teary eyed. "Im scared chris...im scared for us and now that we have this baby im scared for it too. We are to far for that to work anyway. Unless jj has one of her watch moments we are up a creek. " She laid her head on his knee. She hoped it was a comfort to him as it was to her. He tried to touch her as best he could but he was restrained. She didnt lift her head back up. "Are you okay about having a baby with me? We havent really talked about it since colton told us. I have no idea what you are thinking."

Chris nodded, hating to see her in that situation and emotionally upset. He took a breath and looked downward. "I'm scared too, sweetie, but... I don't believe in hopeless situations. There is always an out, we just have to be patient and wait for one." In his heart, Chris even wanted to believe that his own brother might be able to help them though it was a long shot but it seemed to him that Seth was genuine in what he'd said though only time would tell.

He smiled down at her and looked back into her eyes. "Of course I am. I'll admit that it came as a surprise and I was hoping to get married before we had a baby, but I'm not mad about it. I'm proud to be a father and we have to do whatever we can to protect our baby."

She sniffled and wiped her face on the shoulder of the straight jacket. Her eyes were still wet with tears but they had stopped flowing. Was it the hormones or was it the situation she didnt know. "I am happy that you're happy. I wasn't sure how you were feeling.  Im scared of the situation and if we get out alive im scared of being...a mom..." She hadnt yet said those words out loud yet and it was scary that she was going to be a mom. " That is even if we get out of here alive."

She suddenly looked like she had an idea. She leaned against him to stand up then went to his side and kissed him fiercely. "I need you to try to undo the straps on the back of my straight jacket with your teeth." She turned around so he could try.

"And you don't think I'm scared of being a dad," he questioned with a chuckle, "I didn't have the greatest example growing up, after all. Still, maybe I can be a better man than he was." He tried to keep his thoughts and words positive to avoid unnecessary emotional stress. He didn't know how long they had to talk to one another and didn't want to waste it crying and feeling helpless.

"Oh, we'll get out alive," he reassured, "just a question of when." He watched her a moment then returned her kiss, grateful for what time they had together even in that present situation. He heard her words, but didn't see how any good would come from it. They had no way of knowing where they were, how many guards were patrolling or what sort of defenses the place had and he didn't like the idea of running blindly into trouble. "I know you want out of here, but we have to have a plan - we need information on where we are, guards, exits, defenses, cameras... we can't risk botching an escape, baby. It's too risky."

Isaac stood back in the hall way letting the young couple have their moment together. He remembered having that feeling. The feeling to protect the ones he loved. He unfortunately let them down when he went to work instead of going with his wife and child who died because of a mutant that could not control her power. He still remembered seeing the body bags and crying. But now he had purpose. He had to keep the mutants off the streets. He looked over the work of the previous directors and higher ups of the MRD and went over the Keys. Chris was supposed to be a key but there was another mutant with similar powers. One they had in their grasp before she killed MRD agents and escaped. ”Bring this one here. I have much to discuss with her. She has ties to the mutant brother hood. Her knowledge would be quiet valuable.” he said handing the file off to a private who ran away to give orders for the capture of a certain someone.

He turned and entered the room once again and seeing Chris and Arabella having an intimate moment. He walked his boots echoing on the cold wet floor as he came up behind Ari and pulled her by the strap of her jacket. ”You have had enough time. I will be back to preform tests and get information from you shortly Christopher.” he said grabbing Ari’s face and squeezing it so she looked up at Chris.

”Just remember that pain will come to you if you resist. Same goes for you as well little girl. Resist and Chris will be hurt for your actions.” he said in a cold, taunting tone as he started to pull Ari out of the room.

Ari jumped when he entered the room. They lost thier chance at a possible escape. She tried to back away from him but she didnt get far. He grabbed her roughly. She whimpered when he grabbed her face. With just a little skin contact she had a glimpse of a memory. She froze and her eyes went blank.

A totaled car on the side of a road. Two body bags on the ground. Someone screaming like they were in pain....

She came out of it and looked at him in confusion. Who was that? Whst was that? When she realized he was dragging her out she yelled and struggled the whole way.
