A Moment Like This (PG-13)

"Yes, yes!" Neal said to Evelyn as he stood up. "Let's go! Take my hand and we'll teleport!" Neal gasped, whirling to face her. "Mutants are getting arrested as well! And these bugs... I think they are fatal!"

It was hard to believe, but he was right -- the front doors and lobby of Empire State Building looked like it had been effectively destroy.''Let's go!" Neal repeated,

Neal looked up and saw the electronic insects flitting above. The cyrokinetic mutant was lying unconscious on the ground. Insects were all over her, surrounding her like bees around a hive.

A group of insects was following them. Neal hurled a lightning bolt, waited for nova-bright burst of light and the lung popping boooooom!

The flying debris from the insects had caught one of the cop from behind, and he was unconscious. The insects was a shattered mess.

Eve looked at the sky.Dark clouds made out of bugs were everywhere.She was disgusted to the core.The mutant who started all this was lying down with bugs all over her.It was like they were eating her alive.Eve felt sick.She growled,and threw her hand up,throwing a blast of fire at the bugs.

Some of them got burned immediately,and fell down upon them.Eve shrieked,now more disgusted than before.She lost her balance and almost let the kid fall,but caught it at the last minutes.That's when she saw that the bugs wee angry now.

They became massive balls of them,and started flying towards them,ready to attack.Eve's eyes widened and she quickly grabbed Neal's hand tightly and started tugging on it."Take us out of here!Now!",she yelled and looked at the bugs afraid.

Before Jason could leave or get anyone out of the harms way. He saw how a person being surrounded by bugs. Whatever it was, it wasn't good and it wasn't pretty. Jason instantly released a psychic blast at the bugs. He had to get that baby to safety. Jason had to stand by her side so she could safely evacuate this sick area.

Another bug flew toward him and he realized what it really was. It was some kind of mutant neutralizer where they bit and destroyed ones powers. He could not for that to happen. Mutant or not mutant. The powers were part of him. Taking them away would be like ripping live heart out of your chest and throwing it in the trash can.

"Come on, Evelyn. This way...Neal, get a move on! This battle won't last long before they swarm us all."

Neal was too shocked to say anything for several seconds. He tried his best to think of something, anything to retain his control, but nothing was happening. "I'll get back to you!" Neal shouted at Jason as he and Evelyn disappeared form everyone's sight.

Several cops and soldiers practically dizzy from the confusion and surprise. Like a fistful of fine sand slipping through his fingers, it seemed as if their entire world was slipping out of their grasp.

In the blink of eye, Neal and Evelyn found themselves in a hospital ward. Neal could make out dingy white curtains surrounding some beds. And then he realized there were sounds of pain coupled with the sights. A lot of men in pain. And by the sound and numbers of men moaning, he expected a nurse or doctor or even an orderly to enter the room to assist Evelyn and the unconscious child -- but none did. Neal walked and looked outside the room, waited several minutes, but the men's cries unanswered. He could see people were moving past the doors, but no one entered.

"Evelyn, you go and find the emergency room, I will get back to others to teleport them here. " Neal said.

Neal teleported black to the building. He saw the masked lady being attack by the mechanical insects. One by one, Neal carefully hurled his lightning bolts at the insects who dodged every one.

Another lightning bolt flashed down from Neal's right hand, and then he threw it at one of the insect, followed by a gust of wind, blasted menacingly. It struck the Insects with crushing force, hurling them round and round. But Neal's assaults were abruptly stopped by a screeching. In the distance, he heard an engine revving high.

He heard a vehicle coming closer. The truck and the driver inside were also being attacked by the insects. Its tires squealed, threatening to hit the masked lady, and eat her like some mythical monster, leaving her dead body on the side of the road.

But right before the lady was hit by the truck, Neal managed to teleport her into
the hospital saving Rachel's life.

Eve was still in the hospital.People were in pain all over.All people had opened wounds who were bleeding really badly.The room smelt like blood,sweat and dirt.She couldn't stand it.She looked down at the kid she was holding and sighed.It was bruised and purple,but thankfully still alive.

No doctors were in here,and that made her curious.How can a hospital full of half dead people not have doctors treating their wounds?How could they let them die?She walked further away from the bodies,and out of the double doors.She was now at an empty hallway,with a kid in her arms.

She started making her way down the hall,when she saw a shadow moving.The shadow moved quickly,not letting her adjust what exactly happened.Was her mind playing tricks on her?She quickly walked over,and placed the kid on some chairs.She turned around immediately and made flames appear in her hands.Her bottle of gasoline,tied on her thigh.

She looked around the room,trying to find that shadow again.She was alone.Neal had gone back to save the others,and she was alone with a child.Or maybe,she wasn't alone,seeing that there was a shadow moving all around the room.The shadow passed in front of her again but she was buried in her thought to even notice it.

She growled and threw some fire down the hall.She couldn't believe she let herself unprotected like that.She had to find that thing.Whatever it was anyway."Reveal yourself!",she yelled at no one in particular,or at least that's what she thought.That's when she heard a noise,and she gulped.She slowly turned around to come face to face with a pair of red eyes.

Jason jumped out of the way of a car as it nearly hit him and that masked lady. whoever she was. She could have been killed if it wasn't for Neal's quick thinking. Her bravery was going to be her downfall one these days. Jason looked around as he saw the insects were still coming for him and every other mutant. He released a psychic blast which in return sent the stupid insect flying backwards, where it then fell to the ground and exploded.

Jason saw that everyone was gone and he should be going too then. Surely, Neal's staff won't work all the time for it was temporary solution. He turned and began to run toward an unknown building. He was sure that everyone was safe. The insects were chasing him and he had to lose them...fast!

Neal was not sure why he's doing this at the first place. It's not his responsibility to save people's lives. It's cops'. Yet even though these human cops treated him like a monster, Neal wanted to help them. But of course, sometimes, he couldn't help himself to throw a tantrum because a loose cannon of authorities throws a volley his way and threatening to pull him out of this world because he is a mutant.

What sucked about it was several things. Not least was that he did not lack for the means to respond to these accusations. The Media was there but the problem was, media would certainly not publish his defenses. For someone who swears the concept of freedom of speech, Media hasn’t yet grasped the concept of equality.

And despite of this, it seemed that both Polices and Media hasn’t yet been summoned by the Government to answer questions about their mistakes and failures to do and accomplish their job, and culpable violation of this country’s laws. Why? Because they had one goal: "Bring down the mutants!"

But what sucks even most is their posturing that mutants are outside of them, and humans are above them, and entitled to judge them.

Neal registered the sound of an explosion and turned to see Evelyn. At first, relief filled her to see him fine and he almost hugged her. He wanted Eve to tell her everything was all right and the kid was okay, then he saw Eve's flaming hands, ready to attack.

She stared at him for a minute, standing with the masked lady, trying to catch his breath.

"Eve?" Neal frowned. He was confused. Neal turned his back, and saw another mutant with red eyes.
